What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a procedure in which a solid filament needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point to relieve muscle pain. A trigger point is a painful ‘knot’ in the body of a muscle, which can cause cramping, and discomfort.

Similar to acupuncture dry needling gets its name as it does not involve injecting anything into the body. Dry Needling differs from acupuncture as it is treating the myofascial trigger points, which are different to traditional Acupuncture points.

Inserting needles into these trigger points cause biomechanical changes that reduce pain.

The response from patients to this treatment has been extremely positive, reducing and most often eliminating pain and restoring them too optimal musculoskeletal function.

Who currently uses it?

Currently dry needling is being used in Western Practice’s; it is growing more popular for the treatment of most musculoskeletal complaints.

Physical therapists, Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Myotherapists, Message Therapists and TCM Practitioners are using dry needling extensively in their practices.
